A Fling, a Rock, and a Mirror
(in my eyes)
A street photographer imagines the inner lives of people she observes in downtown LA. Curious, yearning, she notices people in various stages of relationships, seeing each face as porthole into their lives. However she ultimately relates to a woman who is alone, and who is also dreaming in the middle of the crowd.
All cast were selected to act as themselves. The imagined scenes are filmed in their homes, or places they consider their natural habitat.
This film was created as a video for musician Jadu Jadu and released in Metal Magazine.
Shame
Based on a real life transition that inspired the artist to write the song, the video shows Jennie Lawless processing rejection from a friend and a confusing change in identity in layered and ephemeral portraiture that takes place over the course of a day at home in her apartment.
This video was released by One Point Four and Beyond the Short.
We consider ourselves to be high functioning humans.
Each day, we mutually accessorize the other’s existence into an embryo of interwoven memories and corrective re-creations-
An ordering growth against chaos.
The output of our enmeshment now goes towards a flourishing group cosplay of the day we rekindled the flame, with all proceeds going to charity.
We hold hands. We go up the hill. We procreate copies of copies of our disintegration and resurrection as a unit. We imagine ourselves a happy Sisyphus.
Struggle, analysis, production of meaning…
That is identity.
Rewriting, packaging, spreading…
That is love.
Hill Hikers
A mockumentary made with friends and inspired by the iconic Best in Show by Christopher Guest, in which a group of disillusioned couples compete in an obscure sport. Interviews in their homes expose the eccentricities and motivations of each couple.
This film was released as a Vimeo Staff Pick and selected to be featured on Director’s Notes.

Dear Maslow,
…I keep waiting for everything without you to get easier. I even miss all the things I tried to shame you into changing- the way you tucked your shirts into your pajama pants. How you wore toe shoes just to go on urban hikes through the neighborhood… And insisted on wearing them to meet my parents because the 10 minute walk to the restaurant might hurt that extra little bone in your foot. I miss arguing over natural tooth paste brands because we both just wanted to lead. I'm so sorry I was selfish. I miss everything. Can we please talk?
Love always,
C
P.S. My hair is pink now.
