studio

Waiting for Godar is a Los Angeles based design studio working across interiors, architecture, writing, and film. We approach the home as both a spatial and psychological condition, creating environments that are deeply personal and attentive to material, narrative, and atmosphere. The practice places particular emphasis on working with natural materials, regional sourcing, and close collaboration with local craftsmen and fabricators.

FOUNDER / DESIGN PRINCIPAL

Founded in 2025 by designer and filmmaker Elizabeth Godar, the practice reflects her background across architecture, film, and object design. Godar studied Architecture at Yale before working as a residential architecture and furniture designer in New York for Leroy Street Studio and Los Angeles for de Troupe. She is also the founder of custom perforated metal cladding company Future Surfaces. She has contributed to objects and interiors featured in New York Design Week, Paris Fashion Week, Architectural Digest France, The Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Arts, The Cut, Curbed, Milan Design Weekamong others.

Alongside her design practice, Godar has worked extensively in film; she served as Art Director on the Oscar-winning film Nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao, as well as Production Designer on The Graduates, directed by Hannah Peterson, and has contributed to production design teams for directors Paul Thomas Anderson, Andrew Dominick, and Jordan Peele under award winning production designer Florencia Martin.

Her own films are often concerned with the psychological power and memory of space. These stories give credence to the rich interior world of each individual, exploring the fantastical and taboo often hidden behind the banality of everyday life. These works have been selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick, published in Metal Magazine, One Point Four, Slamdance Film Festival, among others.
